Workshop Description

This two-part calligraphy workshop explores the art of Pointed-Pen Calligraphy. Pointed-Pen calligraphy derives from letter-forms and structures of formal scripts i.e. Copperplate consisting of thin strokes, thick strokes, and ovals. You will learn about the tools, the basic strokes, how to form letters, connect one letter to another, and form words and sentences. I'll also teach you the mindset and preferred way to practice calligraphy, so you can be equipped to continue practicing on your own after the class. 

All supplies will be provided (and for you to keep).

March 27 - We will work largely on the foundations of calligraphy which consists of holding the pen, drills, angles, and basic strokes. We will also work through the lower case letters and how to connect them. 

April 10 - At the beginning of the class, we will warm up with lowercase letters to warm up, and then we'll dive into capital basic strokes and letterforms. Capitals can be formed in so many ways and that's what makes calligraphy so beautiful and endless. We will explore different styles of writing capitals and also how to add flourishing to your letters.  

By the end of the course, you'll have developed a foundation you'll need to continue with pointed-pen calligraphy after the course.
